No fire alarm was installed in the apartment of Trump Tower where a deadly blaze broke out on April 7, the New York City Fire Department announced Monday on Twitter.
Fire marshalls have declared the incident an “accident,” saying it started as an electrical fire that started from “sequenced power strips powering multiple components.”
The fire killed Todd Brassner, who was 67.
After the fire, the president praised the construction of his building in a tweet:
Fire at Trump Tower is out. Very confined (well built building). Firemen (and women) did a great job. THANK YOU!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 7, 2018
He never mentioned the fact that Brassner was killed in the fire.
Miriam Light, a landlord who lives in Trump Tower, told the New York Times after the fire that the building should have a sprinkler system.
“It’s the 21st century,” Ms. Light said. “Nobody has to lose their life. The system should be updated. Whatever it takes, it should be improved.”
